Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Program

The Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Program treats children and adolescents with eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGIDs). In these rare conditions, high levels of eosinophils — a type of immune cell — accumulate in one or more parts of the digestive system, causing tissues to become inflamed. This can cause swelling, pain, reflux, poor weight gain and other symptoms, depending on where in the GI tract the cells cluster. The influx of eosinophils is triggered by an allergic reaction, typically to food allergens.

We care for patients witheosinophilic esophagitis (EoE)as well as eosinophilic gastritis, colitis and gastroenteritis.
