As the Executive Director for the Department Izabela integrates the practices and the priorities of the anesthesia department into the larger mission of the BCH. A highly effective healthcare leader with clinical and administrative experience. Izabela has a reputation for integrity, credibility, and talent for organizational development and innovative solutions. A committed mentor who effectively identifies talented individuals and fosters their career growth. Extensive clinical background with unique ability to understand quality, research and safety issues in the complex clinical environment of a major academic medical center. Izabela’s activities represent innovation and advancement in three distinct areas: Operations, Quality Improvement, Research. Founder and Director of the Pediatric Clinical and Research Internship (PACaRI) and Pediatric Anesthesia Research center (PARC).

Background: Jocelyn joined the PARC team in March 2020. At the start of her career she worked as an R&D Associate at MassBiologics, supporting the research and development of monoclonal antibodies. Since graduating nursing school, Jocelyn has worked in primary care/urgent care settings, predominantly with the pediatric population. She piloted the Pediatric Diagnostic and International Primary Care programs here at Boston Children’s Hospital prior to switching her focus to clinical research. Jocelyn is the research coordinator for the Outcomes Research and Regional Anesthesia Research groups.

Julia is joining the Pediatric Anesthesia Research Center as a research assistant. She is from Gaithersburg, Maryland and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wake Forest University. While at Wake Forest, she was a research student in the Physiology and Pharmacology Department at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital and conducted behavioral research on anxiety-like behaviors in male Long Evans rats. Julia began her career at Boston Children’s Hospital as part of the Administrative Team in the Division of Critical Care Medicine.

ShengXiang (Tim) Huang joined the Pediatric Anesthesia Research Center as a Clinical Research Assistant 1 in June of 2019. He graduated from Boston College where he double majored in biology and history. Prior to joining Boston Children’s Hospital, Tim volunteered at various health organizations including East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, New York Presbyterian-Columbia, and Boston Health Care for the Homeless. In addition, he has also worked on profiling candidates for pharmaceutical development in a lab at Boston College.

He is from Little Rock, Arkansas, and graduated from Boston College, where he obtained a BS in Biology and a minor in Philosophy. Sam spent his first summer of college at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Geriatrics Department examining a redefinition of the maximal anabolic response of various dietary proteins in healthy adults. Afterward, he joined a Boston College lab investigating the effects of exercise coupled with acetyl-DL-leucine (Tanganil) on Tay-Sachs Disease in murine models. Additionally, he volunteered at the Campus School at Boston College as a classroom buddy.

Karina is joining the Pediatric Anesthesia Research Center as a research assistant. She is from Norwich, Vermont and graduated with a BSc in Neuroscience from the University of St. Andrews. Prior to coming to Boston Children’s Hospital, she conducted research at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center that focused on the use of photodynamic therapy for eliminating precancerous tissue. While at St. Andrews, she was a part of the Neural Control of Movement Lab group, and conducted research on spinal cord based mechanisms of locomotor modulation in neonatal mice. She also completed the Pediatric Anesthesia Clinical Research Internship here at BCH last summer, during which she aided in the creation of a blood transfusion database for the hospital.

Brooke Sens, BSN, RN

Brooke graduated from Regis College in 2016. She joined the PARC team in Spring of 2018. Brooke’s research interests and experience include critical care studies, randomized control trials, and cardiac anesthesia studies.

Hanna is joining the PARC team as a Clinical Research Assistant I. Hanna is originally from Groton, Massachusetts and recently graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BS in Physiology and Neurobiology. Prior to coming to Boston Children’s Hospital, Hanna worked as a certified nursing assistant, and conducted research at a Neurological Disease Laboratory at UConn.
